TWO pieces of advice I offer to young people in the journalism business.
The first and best advice is self-evident: “When in doubt, don’t do what I have done, and you should be okay.”
The second and only affirmative piece of coaching might be counter-intuitive: “Seek out their heroes.” By that I don’t mean their heroes in sports or entertainment or whatever field interests them. I mean the writers or broadcasters or filmmakers whose work they admire. And, related to the first piece of advice, I mean someone other than me.
