First of all, prayers for Damar Hamlin. As the events unfolded on Monday night—the 24-year-old Bills safety collapsing after a brutal collision with the Bengals receiver Tee Higgins, first responders administering CPR and defibrillating him on the field while teammates openly wept, the ambulance rushing from the stadium to hospital—the NFL season felt smaller and smaller, to the point of utter insignificance. After a gut-wrenching interim the game was suspended—not quickly enough, some will say but it matters not today. In the wee hours of Tuesday morning details were getting filled in. From CNN:
